I see some of the Caregivers with residents and the kindness brings a tear to my eye
Having been in hospitality for over 35 years, John took the role as Kitchen Manager here in 2018 and he’s finding it very rewarding to be able to make a positive difference to the resident’s daily lives.
“The food is one of the most important things in the routine here so we have a nutritionist write the menus and then I adapt the recipes to add colour, texture and tastability.”
He often walks around the dining room and discusses the meal with residents. “I let people know they should feel free to suggest changes to the menu. One of my favourite residents told me she loves chocolate mousse, so I added that in, it gives people ownership.”
John tells us a recent BBQ was very popular with residents and staff alike. He cooks, the Caregivers dish up and they all sit down and share it together. “I see some of the Caregivers with residents and the kindness brings a tear to my eye, they do such a fabulous job. It’s much more personal than the hotel work I was used to.”
