Allison (Ali) fell into the care industry by accident. After getting a cleaning job at a Rest Home, a Caregiver noticed how well she interacted with residents, which eventuated into her getting an offer to work as a nightshift Caregiver instead.

While working on the night shift for nearly 14 years at Heritage, Ali is the friendly face the residents see when they need someone to talk to at night. “Some residents like to stay up late at night. Like Lizzie, she likes to stay up and show me what she gets up during the day and we’ll chat away.”

From previously working with children, as a teacher aid and child-minding, Ali believes she’s now in the right place. “I do enjoy working with the elderly and that’s why I stayed, I’m a stayer. I like all the different characters here. They’ve all got different personalities, from the ones who are quiet and don’t say boo, then you’ve got the ones who are always talking or wanting something.”

For Ali, 'A Better Everyday' is “when I go home and relax and say I had a good night.” She feels a smoothly run shift, means everything went well for both her and the residents.
