People get to make new friends here too, there’s a lot of that.
Previously a Caregiver, Charmaine is now a Pool Supervisor here at Heritage and you would be correct in thinking she loves her job. “At 67, I work because I love it. I love the people, I love the contact and having the thermal pool here makes a real difference to the resident’s lives.”
Charmaine says the pool has proven to be great therapy. “The improvement in mobility is huge. There’s one woman from the Hospital wing, we help her in and now she’s swimming around all over the place. She couldn’t do that when she first arrived.”
Working alongside her daughter Judith, Charmaine says the pool is an important part of the residents’ routine. “I get the pool ready to go at 7.00 a.m. and put the jug on for two of the ladies who love a coffee after their swim. Apparently, they know when we’ve arrived
because they hear us laughing!”
It’s that sense of humour that makes Heritage such a great place to work. “People who don’t have family – we become their family. It’s really central, so for the residents who do have friends and family nearby, it’s very easy to come for a meal, a visitor to take people out shopping. People get to make new friends here too, there’s a lot of that.”
