Activities stimulate their minds and their thoughts. It makes them use their brain. A lot of the people here love all the mind challenges
Tanya is a new Activities Coordinator at Heritage and is only a couple of weeks into the job but has already made a huge difference in the residents’ lives. She has many plans for what she wants to achieve as well as just keeping the residents happy.
“I want all the residents here to be happy and stimulated. With it only being my 11th day, everything is going really well. And the feedback so far is that all the residents are happy with the programmes that I’m doing.”
Tanya has always been in the health industry. Before Heritage, she worked with people that had brain injuries as well as with IHC. But she always did want to work with the elderly, so when the opportunity popped up she went with it. So far, she has been able to connect with a lot of the residents, but she hopes to get more one-on-one time with each of them to find out what they like to do. “I’m still learning though as there is a lot to learn.”
Tanya believes that having activities available for residents is important. “Activities stimulate their minds and their thoughts. It makes them use their brain. A lot of the people here love all the mind challenges.”
'A Better Everyday' for Tanya is being rewarded by the resident’s happiness. “You get satisfaction when they’re happy with doing different types of activities. It’s honestly rewarding.”
