Stillwater Lifecare & Village resident Nita Schweizer (pictured in the middle in the grey jumper) learned handcrafts from her mother and by the age of four was a competent knitter. Although her eyesight now prevents her from doing the fine embroidery work she loves, aged in her nineties, Nita still knits for charities and is a keen member of the Stillwater Crafters group.
Earlier this month the Stillwater Crafters made a visit to Māpua Library to check out an exhibition of Nita’s work, which included exquisite cross stitch pictures, tapestry and examples of Swiss traditional embroidery. Nita also gave a brief talk about her background and treated the craft group to coffee and cake at the Māpua Village Bakery
