Brigid's career in aged care began as a caregiver, but with her strong work ethic and leadership skills she rose through the ranks while balancing a busy family life. A mentor and friend, who generously offered support, wisdom, and kindness.

In her memory, we've established The Whakapumautanga Scholarship, honouring her legacy by supporting individuals within our Heritage community who show leadership potential, regardless of their background or qualifications.

The Scholarship Offering

The Whakapumautanga Scholarship is more than a financial boost for your studies. It’s a chance for you to take the next step in your professional journey, backed by the support of our Heritage community. Whether you’re dreaming of advancing in your current role or exploring new horizons within Heritage, this scholarship is designed to help you get there.

Financial Support

Successful applicants could receive up to $10,000 to cover course fees, books, and more.

Flexibility

The scholarship supports your study by providing flexibility in working hours.

Career Development

Even if you aren’t selected, you’ll receive support to develop a Personal Development Plan, tailored to your career goals.

Application Criteria and Process

The Whakapumautanga Scholarship, is open you as a Heritage employee if you:

1. Have been employed with Heritage for 6 months or more. 2. Hold the right to remain in New Zealand indefinitely. 3. Can demonstrate leadership potential, either within Heritage or through contributions to the community or industry. 4. Agree to being included in marketing around the scholarship and being contacted for updates throughout your education journey.

We believe that leadership potential is diverse and can be demonstrated in various ways. Here are some examples to help you understand what makes a potential Heritage leader:

1. Community Engagement: Have you been involved in community projects, charity 2. Personal Growth: Have you sought new challenges, taken on additional responsibilities,or pursued educational opportunities to grow professionally? 3. Passion for Aged Care: Do you have a genuine passion for our industry? Do you aspire to contribute positively and drive improvements within the aged care sector?

As an applicant, you will need to complete the online Scholarship application form, which will guide you through the following requirements:

1. Illustrate instances of your leadership potential, whether at Heritage or in community activities. 2. Provide a minimum of two references, which may come from within our Heritage whānau (team leaders, managers, regional managers) or your wider circle outside of work (community leaders, teachers, mentors or coaches, religious leaders).
