Having worked in Civil Aviation, in 1965 Bert’s role took him to Aitutaki in the Cook Islands ‘before it was trendy’. On their return the family of six settled in Mangere and in 2016, Bert moved to a villa at Heritage.

He chose Heritage because his late wife was here until sadly, she passed away in 1990. He’d also heard it had a good name and now he can see why. “The staff here are so helpful. They just can’t do enough for you.”

Bert also enjoys the activities. “I like joining in with the singing. Sometimes I’m successful, sometimes I’m not, and I also go to the exercise classes with Joy.”

Which brings us to the main reason Bert has such a big smile on his face. “Well, I met a lovely young lady of my age at the movie night here and last year, she agreed to marry me. So on December 16th, we had the wedding here, it was a wonderful occasion and the staff did everything up so nicely.”
