Here the residents are treated like family and the caregivers spend quality time with them.
Even after working here for 27 years as the maintenance man, Dave says he still loves getting up in the morning knowing he’s coming to Heritage. “I love the staff and residents and it’s nice to know you bring laughter to a place.”
He thinks part of the appeal of Heritage is its size. “If you’re in a bigger facility, you’re just a number. Here the residents are treated like family and the caregivers spend quality time with them. It’s great having the added security of the hospital as well, we’re very lucky to have it.”
He reckons the Care Home Manager is one of the keys to the success. “She’s very caring and she takes the time to listen. The respect she gives us is given back to the residents tenfold and that extends to everyone that comes here – visitors, contractors and staff.”
“In fact, one woman, Wendy, used to come here to visit her mum and now that she’s gone, Wendy still comes in every second day to help. She looks after the birds in the aviary and Tazzie, our new rescue cat goes straight t o her when she arrives.”
What does 'A Better Everyday' mean to Dave? Well for him, it’s that he can go home every day knowing he’s done his best. “It’s nice to know that the work I do helps people.”
