What I love about Heritage is the people you meet, the people who live here and the genuinely lovely staff who get to know residents one-on-one.
Apart from some work experience, being a Caregiver at Heritage is Taylah’s first job and she tells us she’s not going anywhere soon “I always knew I’d be a Caregiver because that’s what my family do, we look after people.”
And that’s something you can tell Taylah does well. It’s in the way she smiles when she talks about the people here. “What I love about Heritage is the people you meet, the people who live here and the genuinely lovely staff who get to know residents one-on-one. We really respect what the residents want – some want privacy, some want TLC, and some just want you to stay and listen and that’s what I do.”
Taylah’s empathy and enthusiasm make her a favourite with staff and residents alike, but she’s quick to point out some of the other amazing people, and four-legged friends, that make Waiapu such a great place to be.
“Our laundry lady Kirsty, is amazing. She’s so busy but she still takes the time to have a laugh with everyone. On her laundry run every morning she stops and does up the shoe-laces of a woman who lives here so she can go on her daily walk. Then there’s Tommy the cat. Some residents think he’s their cat, which is great because it makes them feel more at home.”
To Taylah, that’s what makes 'A Better Everyday' for everyone here.
