We put out a weekly programme and every morning they’re waiting to have a chat about it
For the last fourteen years, Andrea has been working as a Diversional Therapist at Heritage and she loves her work. “Our job is the fun part, the residents are our main focus and they make it so worthwhile.”
While Andrea says you can be as involved as you want to be, she says the residents really look forward to the activities. “We put out a weekly programme and every morning they’re waiting to have a chat about it. If you’re happy to join in, we’ll cater to you.” The men’s group
is a good example of that with get-togethers like the ‘pea, pie and pud’ lunches.
Andrea and her counterpart, are here to provide motivation and the popularity of the activities and outings shows they’re certainly doing that. “We have a library, musical entertainment and dancing, and the local daycare brings in the littlies for a craft session and morning tea. That puts a smile on everyone’s face.”
They even make exercise interesting with a quiz game where you roll the dice and three and six are the exercise numbers. “Everyone gets involved with that.”
And 'A Better Everyday'? Well to Andrea, it’s working with older people. “I’ve recently been away for a few days and everyone was so pleased to see me back. I got so many hugs, they’re precious. Working with the residents here is a real pleasure."
